Situated in Hailin county, Heilongjiang Province, Shuangfeng Forest Farm is called the first hometown of snow in China. Influenced by the climate of that mountainous area, whenever autumn comes, the whole mountain is covered by snow. The snow season lasts about 7 months, covering the area in up to 2 meters of snow, more than any other place in China.

Spring Festival is the best time for snow. The scenery is just beautiful: local houses with thick white snow on their roovfs, smoke wreathing upward through the chimney, big red lanterns hanging in front of houses and the big red Chinese character "Fu" meaning luckiness showing on the gate, with the crystal snow mountain and pine trees as background.

Travel tips:

Regular itinerary:

1. Take a train from Harbin to Hailin (five hours). Most of the Harbin-Mudanjiang trains pass through Hailin.

2. Take a long distance coach or taxi from Hailin to Changting (one hour) and then a shuttle bus to Shuangfeng (three hours). Or, charter a vehicle from Hailin to Shuangfeng.

Adventure itinerary

For a memorable experience:

1. Take the Harbin-Wuchang long distance coach. It departs at 8:00 am and arrives at 11:00 am.

2. Take a shuttle bus from Wuchang to Shanhe Town. It takes 40 minutes. Take the long distance coach from the Forestry Bureau at 1:00 pm that gets to Dongsheng Forestry Farm at 6:00 pm. Stay with local families. The next morning, a local guide will take you on a trek through Shuangfeng, is stunning mountain scenery.
